The following article discusses Organizational Units.
Organizational Units enable you to organize the users of your tenant hierarchically.
You will learn where and how to create Organizational Units and then assign users to them.
Creation of Organizational Units
To create an Organizational Unit, first, navigate to the tenant settings. There you will find the ‘Organizational Units’ tab.
Here you will now see an overview of the existing Organizational Units.
If no Organizational Units have been created yet, you can do this using the ‘ADD’ button.
Now select a name for the new Organizational Unit and confirm by clicking on ‘CREATE ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT’.
This is the first Organizational Unit you create. It will represent the root unit of your tenant. Any additional units will be subordinate elements of this first root unit.
You will see the root unit in the overview.
To create a subordinate Organizational Unit press the '+' button next to the root Organizational Unit.
Again, you will be prompted to provide a name for the new Organizational Unit. Please note, that the names of Organizational Units need to be unique; you cannot have two with the same name.
After pressing create you will see the new Organizational Unit as a subordinate element of the root Organizational Units.
To create additional Organizational Units you now have two options:
- Either another Organizational Unit as a direct child of "My Company" and on the same level as "Alpha" (press "+" next to "My Company")
- or subordinate to "Alpha" and a grandchild of "My Company", so to speak (press "+" next to "Alpha").
Placing the mouse over the "+" button will also indicate where a new element will be created.
Hierarchical Structure
A hierarchical structure might look something like this:
Using the and button you can collapse and expand the respective Organizational Unit to gain a better overview.
Additionally, you can use the "EXPAND ALL" and "COLLAPSE ALL" at the top to expand or collapse all Organizational Units.
Editing Organizational Units
You can press the pen button to edit an Organizational Unit's name or manage its users.
You will now see an overview of all your tenant users. If you want to add a user to the Organizational Unit, tick the relevant checkbox next to the person and then save.
In the "Details" tab you can change the name and external key of the Organizational Unit.
Press "SAVE DETAILS" to save your changes.
You can now navigate back using the arrow and see the updated Organizational Unit name as well as the updated user count inside the brackets ().
Deleting Organizational Units
To delete an Organizational Unit you can press the trashcan icon.
You are then prompted to confirm that you want to delete the Organizational Unit. Press "YES".
Please note that you cannot delete an Organizational Unit if it contains subordinate elements.
